This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to neatly remove defective floor components and replace with matching piece(s).

Licensing, legislative or certification requirements may apply to this unit and relevant state/territory and local government agencies should be consulted to determine any necessary certification or licensing for undertaking flooring work. Access to construction sites requires certification of general induction training specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction for Construction Work (ASCC 2007).

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.

Confirm subfloor suitability for installation consistent with Australian Standards and manufacturer recommendations. 
Select suitable and matching timber materials for repair in required quantities 
Select and check tools, equipment and other materials prior to use to ensure that they are appropriate for the work, serviceable and in a safe condition 
Plan sequence of work to ensure efficiency and quality of application 
Check timber flooring to be installed against work order and acclimatise to align replacement materials with original and remaining floor materials 
Accurately measure area to be repaired and clearly mark starting points 
Remove or prepare damaged sections of floor in accordance with workplace procedures 
Select and prepare suitable adhesives and/or fasteners, fillers and/or stains in accordance with workplace procedures 
Cut replacement flooring materials to provide appropriate alignment of joins 
Use adhesives and/or fasteners in accordance with workplace procedures and manufacturer recommendations 
Install replacement flooring materials to produce required finish 
Fill and/or re-stain to achieve match with existing flooring 
Store and recycle unused materials in accordance with workplace procedures 
Check, clean and store tools and equipment in accordance with workplace procedures 
Clean work area and dispose of rubbish safely 
Accurately complete required workplace documentation
